Stan D. Soderstrom of Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, served as executive director for Kiwanis International and the Kiwanis Children’s Fund from 2009 to 2024. His background includes both global and community-based work in the public and private sectors. He continues his engagement with Kiwanis as its Executive Director Emeritus.During his time at Kiwanis, the organization achieved milestones in membership growth in its youth and young adult groups and accomplished two major global health initiatives which together raised more than a quarter billion dollars.Career involvement includes consulting in the energy industry with a major oil and gas company and as a private consultant, five years with the Dallas Cowboys that included start-up and management of a licensed merchandise/ marketing enterprise that included three Super Bowl championships, and a wide range of community engagements. Twenty-six years in the non-for-profit world have included experience in board governance, strategic planning, leadership development for adults and youth, international travel and commerce, global health, governmental relations, and charitable fundraising. Specific partnerships have included partnership work with UNICEF and the US Agency for International Development (USAID). Stan serves as the CASA, Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the US Army, for Indiana, board member and recent chair of the board of Heartland Film (parent organization of top 25 Heartland International Film Festival), and as vice-chair of the board for the Iodine Global Network.A native of Amarillo, Texas, Stan earned his undergraduate degree in geoscience, geophysics and mathematics at Texas Tech University and master’s degree studies in geology at the University of Texas at Austin.Stan is recipient of numerous awards and honors that include the Indiana Sagamore of the Wabash, the highest award presented by the governor of the state, the US Army’s Outstanding Civilian Service Medal, and the Will Rogers Award from Texas Tech University.Stan and his wife, Misty, reside in Indianapolis and have two children; a daughter who is a theme park design artist/cosplay fashionista in Orlando, and a son who is police officer in Indianapolis and a former U.S. Marine.One of Stan’s priorities is to develop fresher, more personalized models to attract and shape the next generation of not-for-profit and community leaders. He operates with a belief: “True leaders don’t create followers…they create more leaders.”
