At UCI I studied nonlinear optics and laser-plasma interactions, primarily focused on the nonlinear optical effect self-phase modulation. I developed a technique to create a few-cycle laser, increasing peak intensity of laser by >3x for <$3000. The few-cycle source was then used to generate an extreme ultraviolet light continuum source and relativistic electron source.Using machine learning, I developed multiple methods to reconstruct the temporal intensity profile of an ultrafast laser pulse. One of these methods was experimentally implemented at UCI, enabling real-time intensity reconstructions of the laser.Skills developed include project planning, optical system development and characterization, machine learning techniques, hardware GUI development, and mentoring.
