About Sheikh Tanjeb Islam

Tanjeb is currently working as the Head of Government Affairs within the Forum's Centre of the 4th Industrial Revolution Network. He joined the Forum as a Global Leadership Fellow and Lead for Government Engagement for the Asia Pacific Region. He was responsible for leading the World Economic Forum's engagement with policymakers, businesses, civil society and academia across Australia, New Zealand and Bangladesh. He previously also supported the engagement with Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bhutan. He also contributes to the Forum's insight reports such as the Regional Risk Report and the Global Risk Report. He previously worked for the World Bank as an Economist within the Macroeconomics, Trade and Investment Global Practice of the World Bank. In this role, he was responsible for providing macroeconomic updates from the region, forecasts the development outlook and hold dialogue with governments. Previously he worked as a Research and Operations Analyst within the Governance Global Practice of the World Bank. In this role, he provided support to the Government of Bangladesh in carrying out reforms within the Public Financial Management space. This includes supporting the revenue board in implementing a new VAT (Sales Tax) law. In addition, he also supported the Ministry of Finance in strengthening its budget preparation process. He graduated from Columbia University focusing on economic and political development. His fieldwork experience focuses on rural and private enterprise creation and furthering the emergence of a strong market economy in South Asian countries, such as Bangladesh. He also has Masters degree in Economics from the University of Sydney and a Bachelors Degree in Business from Monash University. He also has over 3 years of corporate treasury experience in Bangladesh focusing on local currency financing from local and multinational banks.
