Systems EngineerPublix Super Markets 1995 - 1998Systems Engineer and Senior Systems Engineer, working on UNIX-based client/server systems, AIX, HP-UX, Informix.Among other projects, I was part of a team that was responsible for transitioning all of the Publix warehouses from mainframe-based systems to Unix-based systems. I was the engineer responsible for selecting, integrating, and deploying the hardware (servers, printers, terminal servers, terminals, wireless terminals, etc.) to each warehouse complex. Because of the almost continuous operations of the warehouses, these roll-outs had to be performed with minimal interruption, requiring extensive planning and preparation prior to roll-outs.Publix invests heavily in the development of their IT resources. During my years at Publix, I was privileged to receive significant training directly from IBM, HP, Informix, and Microsoft in classes covering advanced systems admin and database admin. These classes greatly expanded my technical aptitude and have proven invaluable in my career development. -
