My research involves toxicity testing of key chemical pollutants in oligochaetes, chironomids, daphnids, collembola, and enchytraeids. Some of the priority substances of interest include the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), heavy metals, pesticides and their mixtures.Other areas of interested include the following:- The EU's Water Framework Directives and the REACH guidelines;- Toxicity of nanoparticles and endocrine disrupting chemicals with emphasis on underlying mechanisms of action;- Influence of environmental conditions (hypoxia, DOC, temperature, UV light, and pH) on chemical distribution, bioavailability, and toxicity to non-target organisms;- Linking transcriptional and metabolic perturbations to organism-level responses; - Epigenetic regulations in organisms exposed to potentially toxic contaminants; - Laboratory and field applications for passive sampling devices and passive dosing; and - Application of fluorescent bacteria assay to test the toxicity of industrial wastewater
