Research & development of text analytics and Natural Language Processing (NLP) software in a BigData domain. The specific focus is in the area of semantic analysis of text via a high performance N-dimensional Semantic Knowledge Base (SKB) for deep semantic analytics of text. The SKB is based on concepts distilled from a Ph.D. research topic: "Investigations Of Mechanisms To Improve Question Answering". A "must have" for the development of semantic-enabled text analytic capability, especially where large data/document searches or real-time analytics are required.The SKB is a component of a complete BigData framework providing high performance, security and fault tolerance for massive data (beyond Hadoop). SemantiGrid that provides a document store and search capability over massive data. Documents are automatically indexed and prepared for searching using TFIDF, keyword, ngrams, semantic search, phrase resolution, document classification, document sentiment, ... SemantiGrid provides: security via various level of encryption (user, group, document) and extreme fault tolerance. APIs including command-line, JAVA, C/C++. SemantiGrid can serve as the backend search engine for a data warehouse (a SQL UDF capability provides transparent integration with Teradata and is extensible to DB2 and Oracle).

Created and lead a BigData architecture and Hadoop implementation practice/COE (Center Of Excellence) for the Teradata Aster division. The COE's mission was to provide architecture and implementation of BigData / Hadoop solutions to Teradata customers. As director I provide pre-sales customer engagement and also participate in architecture engagements for solutions. The COE's focus is broader than just the Hadoop stack and includes integration of Hadoop with customer's ancillary systems (ETL, data source, transactional) plus what is considered Teradata's UDA (Unified Data Architecture) which includes Aster and the Teradata Database.

Created Teradata's Enterprise Archicture practice to address architectural needs for integrating Teradata databases into active enterprises. This included data transport/ingest, traditional ETL and real-time data feeds (Active Data Warehousing). My team was also responsible for high availability architectures (Dual Systems), disaster recovery architectures and enterprise/database security. Working manager splitting time between managing the team and bringing in consulting revenue through consulting engagements.Significant contributor to Teradata's Dual System High Availability product effort, having built the prototype for the Multi-Systems Manager product. Designed/built multi-systems components for Teradata's customers. The Dual System initiative is effectively a cloud computing approach to large databases, supporting a variety of replication strategies and transparent user access to database computing resources.

While NCR provided the Teradata database for data warehousing, the STS organization provided integration services for Teradata and non-Teradata data wareshouses (DB2, Oracle). Focused on consulting services to Discover Card and Sears Roebuck and Company. Delivered a network management solution using Netview/6000 (a clone of the HP OpenView product) for Discover Card. Developed and integrated the entire solution which provided monitoring of Oracle replication and systems monitoring, alerting (paging) and monitoring of security through a set of custom developed monitoring applications.Worked on three different multi-terabyte data warehouse projects while at Sears. This included Sears' enterprise data warehouse (SPRS - Teradata-based), Assortment Planning (Informix-based) and the Credit Data Warehouse (Informix SPX based and implemented on an IBM SP2).

Founded Chicago Technologies Incorporated. Developed/marketed software tools for the UNIX environment. The software was sold to fortune 500 companies. Also provided consulting services to fortune 500 (software/application development, security, system and network performance analysis, database).

UNIX Operating System developer. Worked on all fault tolerant aspects of the UNIX kernel used in high availability systems within AT&T's switching division. Focus was the AT&T 3B20D; a true Dual Active system capable of running the UNIX OS on both CPUs in the pair. Area of responsibility included the boot code, processor initialization, system switch logic that performed a system switch in under 20 milli-seconds, error/fault handlers, configuration management.The last two years of tenure at AT&T Bell Labs, worked in the newly formed Computer Systems division, delivering systems engineering and custom development to AT&T customers. Major customer accounts worked were the United States Postal Service (a $200M dollar win), Nationwide Insurance, Knight Ridder, Circle K and the Air Traffic Control replacement effort.
