Michael J. Stanton is the Chief Executive Officer at COMPLY, a global market leader in regulatory compliance solutions. Michael was appointed CEO in April 2024 and is responsible for all day-to-day operations at COMPLY. A seasoned executive and board member, Michael’s experience spans the complete corporate lifecycle from venture capital start-ups to publicly traded and private equity owned companies. Michael possesses a deep background in software-as-a-service (SaaS), data, payments and services businesses as a result of leading both Blackboard Inc. and Diligent Corporation through periods of significant growth. He joined COMPLY from FTV Capital where he served as an operating advisor. From 2015 until December 2022, Michael served as Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer of Diligent Corporation, (formerly NZX: DIL, acquired in a leveraged buyout in 2016 and currently owned by Insight Partners, Clearlake Capital and Blackstone), a software-as-a-service (SaaS) provider for governance, risk, and compliance solutions (GRC). At Diligent, Michael was responsible for leading a global team of ~300 professionals spanning accounting, business technology, corporate development, finance, legal, real estate and sales and marketing operations. Michael helped scale revenue at Diligent from ~$90mm to ~$600mm and EBITDA growth from ~$20mm to ~$240mm. During his tenure, Diligent Corporation’s valuation increased from ~$300mm to ~$7bn through profitable revenue growth and EBITDA margin expansion. Prior to Diligent, Michael served from 2000 to 2015 as Senior Vice President, Corporate Finance & Treasurer at Blackboard Inc. (formerly NASDAQ: BBBB), the world’s largest educational SaaS provider at the time. He played a key role in taking Blackboard public in 2004 and selling the business in 2011 to Providence Equity Partners for ~$1.7bn. During his tenure, Michael helped scale revenue at Blackboard from ~$1mm to ~$670mm and EBITDA growth from (~$30mm) to ~$210mm. Prior to joining Blackboard, Michael worked at Citigate Dewe Rogerson in the TMT group. Michael began his career at CCA Companies, where he worked in corporate finance. Michael has been profiled and quoted in print, broadcast, and online media, including the Associated Press, Bloomberg, CNBC, CNN, CFO Magazine, The Financial Times, Forbes, The Washington Post and other publications. Michael received a B.A. in History from the College of the Holy Cross. He currently resides in Arlington, Virginia, with his wife and four children.
