Star Li is a Director of Financial Planning and Analysis at Introl. Colleagues describe them as "Star Li is going to surprise you. She looks like an ordinary, fast-track, high-achieving MBA. But, she is much more. I met Star as a student in a MBA core curriculum course at Chicago Booth School of Business that I teach. She was a top student, and one of the few MBAs I have invited to be a teaching assistant in the course (it was a Managerial Decision Making course that included a challenging combination of math, conceptual analysis, and written communication). As an assistant, Star consistently out-performed my expectations, anticipating needs before I did, and even making some classroom presentations for me (something I allow almost no one else to do). And, even though she was enrolled in a full-time MBA course load at the same time, her performance was on time and almost flawless. In the few cases, where she mis-understood my grading requirements, she immediately grasped the differences and re-did everything perfectly. In addition to her basic capacity for highest-quality productivity, Star has three distinctive attributes: First, Star has a fundamental entrepreneurial mindset about everything in her life. She is always asking, constructively, how could this process be re-designed, how could we introduce a method to test and refine our traditional methods? Second, I don’t believe I know anyone whose actions are more consistently and efficiently aligned with their professional and personal objectives. Star sets exceptionally high goals and exerts enormous self-control to achieve them. There is a healthy sense that Star is constantly ‘competing with herself’, but no sense of competition with colleagues and collaborators. She is simply fun and inspiring to work with. Third, Star has a wonderful positive spirit and she is always injecting her sense of humor and enthusiasm into any project, but without ever diverting attention from the essential objectives. In short, Star is a great person and a wonderful professional. I miss her at Chicago. And, yup, she surprises everyone.", "Star is one of the most amazing people I know. There are three contexts in which I’ve known Star: 1) As a Top 00.2% Student & TA for my MBA Course: Star is one of less than 10 students to receive an A+ from me – incredibly creative, motivated, logical, conceptual, and outgoing. She was the TA for my top-rated MBA Consumer Behavior course – as an undergrad. 2) As an Uncommonly Successful Entrepreneur: Star won Cornell’s Big Idea Entrepreneur Award, then went on after graduation to develop this into a successful company, sell it, and start a new company. 3) As the Slim by Design Social Media Manager: I’ve a new book called Slim by Design that is focused on igniting a movement that will change the food environment in a way that benefits both consumers and the food industry. Star has been a co-editor of this book, and has used her entrepreneurial sense to build an on-line following for the book using social media. It is the third of these contexts I would like to build upon. To create synergies between different outreach platforms, Star realized it would be better if she did all of the coding in this area instead of outsourcing this. Within two months, we terminated the services of my outsourced programmers, and she was promoted to the Web Solutions Architect/Manager of three websites which promote the Slim by Design global brand.
