Education and Career:Greetings! My name is Lucas and I am a currently a Manufacturing Engineer. I got my degree in Mechanical Engineering Technologies at SUNY Farmingdale in 2020. Prior to this in 2015 I enlisted into the United States Marine Corps Reserves and became a member of 6th Communications Battalion as a Field Radio Operator. I served as a member of Direct Support Company and General Support Company during a period of 6 years before entering the Inactive Ready Reserve in May of 2021. Concurrently with my time in the Reserves I began college, joined the Village of Farmingdale Fire Department, and started flight school. By the time I finished college I was an NCO in the Marines and an EMT with the Farmingdale. During my senior year I began working as a CNC Machinist and continued this after graduation. Around this time I passed my Oral and Check Ride and became a licensed Helicopter Pilot. After a while I finally landed a job as an Engineer and I got my career started. Projects:Outside of my job I like to challenge myself with various projects. One such project was making challenge coins from cheap 3D printed materials but maintaining enough material strength to withstand wear and tear. I was able to do this with a resin coating. I am currently using 3D printed fixtures to create silicone molds used to influence how and where resin is applied. My second and now priority project is creating a cheap and effective helicopter flight simulation controls utilizing 3D printing and potential machining for accuracy of 3D prints. My goal is to create a HOTUS (hands on throttle-and-stick) control that behaves more like that of a helicopters actual controls then the common spring loaded flight controls. Current controls that fit this need are expensive so I aim to make mine cheap through design simplification and cheaper material.
