I am an attorney admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey and am the founder of Mediation Associates of NY and NJ (a mediation firm providing divorce mediation and other mediation services in the firm's offices in Westchester, Rockland and Bergen Counties). I also am the founder of Starr & Starr, LLP., a New York and New Jersey based law firm in which my son Jonathan Starr is also a partner. My background as a trained therapist, specializing in family counseling and group work, provides a unique and valuable perspective in handling mediation matters. I am the author of "Compassionate Divorce", an article that is the subject of seminars and is a touchstone for many therapists in supporting couples going through divorce. In my article, I explain the positive emotional, financial and relationship benefits that a divorce process using mediation can provide to couples and their children. I also am a Professor at Rockland Community College teaching family law, contracts, civil procedure, torts and constitutional law for the College's American Bar Association Certified Program for Paralegal Education.
