The last year has been a difficult one as I've watched my Dad go from being a super fit octogenarian to being confined to a wheelchair, spending months in hospital and then moving permanently into a nursing home.Fortunately for me, he hit 90 in May and does not have dementia.He's suffering physically but I have been learning about how the physical deterioration can affect the mental state. I've learned that mobility and movement is key for the brain as we age and I've come to learn some exercises to help him retain the movement he has left and to feel that there are still things he can do for himself.I am currently training to become an exercise coach for seniors - able-bodied as well as those in wheelchairs. [Qualification completes in July].At that point, I'll be offering classes in care and nursing homes around where I live.I'll also offer classes in the community and maybe, even, online.It's somewhat of a change from my corporate life, but I am passionate about it and will likely continue with it after I retire from my day job. Whilst growing up - I learned a lot from my Dad.It hasn't stopped - I am still learning a lot from him - about mobility, exercise, wellbeing and dignity.
