Apr 2012 - Nov 2013My impact on Validity was to re-position the mobile strategy, the branding/perception of the technology and to lead the ecosystem effort to turn consumer biometrics into Natural ID. As CTO, I was part of the core team crafting the turnaround which resulted in the acquisition of Validity by Synaptics for a deal valued at $255M. With concrete accomplishments in the field of commerce, payment and mobile security, I looked beyond the horizon line of next generation products and decided identity was the real challenge. Why? Here is my top 10. 1 - Natural ID and authentication is the next big thing in mobile and personal cloud computing.2 - Be yourself should be the new credo for payment, content access and ID protection. 3 - PIN, passwords and other computed inputs should be a secondary mean of proving who you are, never the primary.4 - Who you are and where you are is more powerful and less spoofable than what you have and what you know. 5 - Reducing friction at user experience level and improving risk management is the promise of FP credential usage especially with BYOD policies balancing between intrusive and privacy protection.6 - SSO can be greatly enhanced and simplified with FP. 7 - "Touch and Tap" in retail commerce is the fastest, most secure and convenient way to unlock your phone, wallet, payment instrument in one touch of the finger, verify your ID and then deliver it via NFC to a merchant.8 - Social identity is the bridge between real identity and digital identity. Who vouches for it is as important as to who you are. 9 - Locally stored credentials are a must in consumer solutions. However, this does not impair the implementation of federated identity in the backend (See FIDO) 10 - TRUST - As for any new product, the debate should be around convenience, not security. Consumers understand and use things that simplify their life. They are not security experts and they should not. Manage the security for them but never ever breach their trust.
