PayDashboard is a start up, implementing an online payslip product in the Azure environment who had just released their first product implemented by a team of contract developers. My role was to transition the development team from contract to a permanent team, review the technical implementation and implement agile development processes and tools to support the team going forward. The internal price assessment system and pricing database is live, the first user application for AMM (American Metal Markets) view metals prices is currently going live.• Technical Architect and for the last 6 months Product Manager for Euromoney’s content store, using REST API’s to access content stored in Marklogic, and pushing new content to search engines (Solr/ElasticSearch) and Semantic Datastores (Owlim). • My main contribution to Euromoney technically was the introduction of SEDA based techniques for the processing of content and the technical infrastructure to support it such as introduction of RabbitMQ as a messaging system. Other contributions included a LogStash based logging system for applications and the use of Dataflow techniques using the Microsoft TPL library. Technical Lead for a new team developing an internal service to manage writing of documents to MarkLogic databases across multiple data centres. The service provided a REST API for clients to write documents, it used Atomikos Transaction Manager to write the documents to copies of the database. A REST management API was also provided to allow administration of failed transactions via the Atomikos JMX interface. The service ran as a Tomcat webapp on multiple servers across multiple datacentres using Spring 3.2 MVC REST and the Atomikos Transaction Manager. Technical Lead for a team developing a new system to syndicate BBC content (News, Financial, Travel, etc. information) internally and externally. The system extracts content in XML, transforms/aggregates the content and sends it to the syndication clients. I took the project through the initial architectural, design and implementation to its first release on the BBC’s forge platform. It was implemented as a number of services running on multiple servers interconnected using ActiveMQ queues. Each service was a Java application implemented using a Camel/Spring framework. The XML used XProc to pipeline XML transformations. Two objectives – 1. Synchronise BBC programme information across a number of operation systems 2. Integrate the data into an XML based Datamart to allow an integrated view of the programme data to be presented to the user via a browser. The first was achieved using a EJB/CORBA messaging framework written in Java to propagate events and apply business rules across the operational systems. The second was archived by replicating the data into an Oracle 9i database and using materialised and xml views to integrate the data, EJB application to provide the access layer and the Apache Cocoon XML/XSLT publishing engine for the browser interface.
