I have now retired from full-time work and work part-time as CTO for NeighbourNet Ltd.My IT career spans a total of 44 years spent mainly on the technical side. I have been involved in the design and implementation of intranet/internet systems since 1993.● 36 years of experience from setting up one of the first WWW servers and applications in BT to developing Internet Applications and Intranet Information Systems for companies including Reed Exhibitions, EuroMoney, BBC, NeighbourNet, BT, Energis, Citibank and Barclaycard.● Extensive experience and knowledge of tools and technologies used in developing web based solutions, including recent detailed experience of .Net, Java, J2EE Technologies, cloud Technologies and Content Management. ● 10 years experience in TV & Radio, including Video Processing (Transcoding), Digital TV (DSAT), Digital Radio, Production, Scheduling, HR, Finance, Web, Content Management, Data and Metadata Management (SMEF). ● 20 years+ experience in local media (hyperlocal) news sites, developing platforms and applications● In recent years approx 20-50% of my time has been spent on low level design and coding. The internal price assessment system and pricing database is live, the first user application for AMM (American Metal Markets) view metals prices is currently going live.• Technical Architect and for the last 6 months Product Manager for Euromoney’s content store, using REST API’s to access content stored in Marklogic, and pushing new content to search engines (Solr/ElasticSearch) and Semantic Datastores (Owlim). • My main contribution to Euromoney technically was the introduction of SEDA based techniques for the processing of content and the technical infrastructure to support it such as introduction of RabbitMQ as a messaging system. Other contributions included a LogStash based logging system for applications and the use of Dataflow techniques using the Microsoft TPL library.
