I am excited to share that I am currently teaching a course on Dynamic Structural Analysis at Polytechnique Montreal. This advanced course focuses on the theory and numerical methods for analyzing structures subjected to time-varying loads, with an emphasis on matrix methods for automated structural calculations.The primary goal is to master the analysis of stresses and deformations in structures under arbitrary dynamic loads. We explore the characteristics of dynamic problems, discretization methods like concentrated masses, generalized coordinates, and finite elements, and the formulation of equations of motion.Key topics include:- Single degree of freedom systems: time response, frequency response, numerical integration, nonlinear systems, and earthquake response.- Multi-degree of freedom systems: structural properties evaluation, modal responses, error calculation, static correction, coordinate reduction, eigenvalue and eigenvector calculation methods, and damping.- Earthquake effects: earthquake characterization, response of single and multi-degree of freedom systems, soil-structure interaction, aseismic construction, and the response of dams and bridges.This course is enhancing my understanding of structural dynamics and my ability to apply advanced numerical techniques in real-world engineering scenarios.
