- Co-founded this global action research center focused on leveraging open data, and other technologies, to transform science and decision-making in the public interest. Responsibilities include: establishing the vision and strategy, developing the overall research agenda and subsequent implementation, hiring, coaching, and supervising a team of +40 researchers and project managers; strategic fundraising; establishing and maintaining global partnerships and networks; open access publication, branding, and communications strategy; and business development. - Helped develop new research, and methodologies on how to open and (re)use data to address societal challenges involving, for instance, scientific applications and public service design that have been adopted by actors worldwide (including the European Commission; several United Nations agencies; national and local government officials, as well as industry and civil society actors).- Initiated and developed several new research projects, agendas, consortia, and networks (including dedicated conferences and journals) around how to unlock (public, private, and research) data to advance societal goals.- Provided thought leadership on a broad range of issues associated with responsible data for United Nations, nonprofits, political officials, and corporate executives. - Designed and taught several courses (including executive courses) on data stewardship, open data, data collaboratives, and data governance.- Expert consultant to numerous public and research organizations and international institutions.- Co-created a new open-access journal, Data & Policy (Cambridge University Press) - serving as Editor-in-Chief overseeing direction, vision, and newsletter publication. - Developed a new curatorial publication called The Living Library which is a weekly curation of 20 articles on the intersection of innovation, data, and government (8000 + subscribers).
