This multi-faceted role is responsible for the National warehousing strategy, Corporate and government compliance, HSSE (Health, Safety, Security and Environment) and Business continuity planning. Charged with the formulation and implementation of the warehousing, compliance and HSSE strategies across all Damco owned facilities and 4PL’s in Australia and New Zealand. Key responsibilities:• The efficient operational running of all Damco Facilities in Australia.• Vendor management and performance reviews.• P&L creation and tracking.• Customs Warehouse and Corporate brokerage licence compliance.• Process analysis and Change management.• WMS review.• Government compliance liaison.• Corporate trade compliance liaison.• OH&S and security officer. • Property Management. As the Head of VAS, I report to the COO of Australia and New Zealand. Working with and guiding a team of 35 individuals across 4 functions, my responsibilities include building and developing of: • National Customs brokerage team.• National FCL Cartage team.• Fleet Management for Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide.• Warehousing for Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide.• National Operational Finance • National trucking procurement• Document management • Customs and AQIS compliance management.• Account Management. • Profit and Loss analysis/Job closureSuccesses:• Planning and executing the CSO (Customer Service Office) transition and the centralisation of all operational and non-operational functions, including ongoing stabilisation efforts• Structural design of the VAS team.• Client Implementation: 1500 clients into the VAS department• Process Implementation: National Customs & FCL teams, creation and implementation of the Document Management team, establishing department work flow reports to improve cross-functional visibility and cohesion.• Developing and implementing an entire paperless system for the Customs, FCL Cartage and Fleet Teams. • FCL cartage procurement with a total saving and costs avoidance of $250K in 2014 • Offshoring project: team creation, analysis, implementation and training of Global Service Centre in Customs and Operational functions.

Reporting to the General Manager of Victoria, I was employed as a Customs manager responsible for the efficient and costs effective execution of Customs clearance, cartage (FCL, LCL and AIR) and operational finance. The mandate for the role was to create efficiency and coherence within the customs team, view and analyse tasks that can be offshored, maintain client retention and implement best practice. Task of this role:• Profit and Loss analysis/Job closure• Accurate and timely completion of work by department.• Complain and issue resolution, both internal and external• Trucking procurement and buy rates maintenance. • Consultation to upper management and department heads on Customs related issues.• Ensure Customs and AQIS compliance• Maintain national warehouse and Corporate brokerage licence• Advise and implement strategies around maximisation of work flow and revenue.• New client implementation. Sucesses:• The successful restructuring of the Customs team, into a two celled team. • Off shoring of key functions, allowing for the reduction of departmental size. • Restructuring of the cartage team, into two teams; FCL and Fleet Management, with the relocation and reporting lines of fleet management to fall under Warehouse Management. The premise of the fleet team was to maximise the usage of our contracted vehicles and minimise the usage of third party providers. This saw a 75K reduction in third party provider usage, with a savings of approximately $0.04 a KG.

Pacific Network Global Logistics was aquired by Damco. Position description as Damco Customs Manager.

The key responsibilities of this role are classification and preparation of customs entries, customs valuation, AQIS adherence, sea and air cargo compliance, customs legislation compliance and customer service, whilst continuously reviewing and remaining abreast of changes to government bodies and legislation.

Responsible for the operational management of major accounts. My primary responsibilities included co-ordinating freight and logistics requirements for major clients, processing shipments through client databases (SAP), hazardous applications with shipping lines (MO41), lodging EDN’s and PRA’s to ready consignments for export and liaising with clients and shipping lines daily on all operational matters.
