About Stefan Ferraro, Ph.D.

I am a researcher, analyst, and founder of CANsights (cansights.ca), a start-up specializing in bespoke research and data solutions. I hold a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Toronto (U of T) and have over a decade of experience in policy research and across various industries, including education, manufacturing, retail sales, and non-profit, giving me a unique skill set and perspective on policy issues. As a researcher and analyst, I specialize in public policy (M.A.), the Canadian government, and international relations (Ph.D.). I am a trained expert in Canada's legislative bodies, public administration and law, federal-provincial relations, municipal government, Ontario politics, and foreign affairs. I also have a firm grasp of the policy development process, and both qualitative and quantitative research methods. I have applied this knowledge and skill set in examining a wide range of policy issues from the economy and health care to national security. I have also developed a general proficiency in reading and translating the French language (a Ph.D. requirement), and skills using various digital tools, such as Adobe Acrobat, GitHub, Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, and Slides), Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Word), Microsoft Power BI, NVivo, Overleaf (LaTeX), Qualtrics, Slack, Stata, and Tableau.Among relevant experience, I was a research assistant at U of T for almost a decade, where I supervised and contributed to numerous projects examining federal, provincial, and municipal affairs in Canada. Post-graduation, I worked as a researcher and data specialist with a team from Oxford University, U of T, and the Investigative Journalism Foundation (IJF) tracking political donations in Canada. And at CANsights, I provide a range of research and data services to clients, as well as conduct independent research to enhance the company’s portfolio, including a recent study examining Canada's national security for the Conference of Defence Associations (CDA) Institute in Ottawa (cansights.ca/portfolio).If you would like to discuss a project, feel free to reach out on LinkedIn or by emailing me at stefan.ferraro@cansights.ca.
