As a lifelong science enthusiast, engineering manifested itself as a natural career option. Through my Bachelor’s degree trajectory, I’ve been able to keep a GPA of 3.61whilst being a full-time athlete across different sports: soccer, swimming, MMA, wrestling, and Jiu-Jitsu. This has shown me how to juggle time, money, physical and mental exhaustion, and social well-being. For my performance in a Material science course, I was able to gain more serious academic experience by participating for a short time as a material’s science Investigator. I assisted in regular lab-work studying the prospect of employing ferrite nano-particles for the purification of water; additionally I conducted exploratory data-analysis via PCA with the data from this investigation. As a dedicated athlete, I approached my Jiu jitsu coach and notified him that I wanted to teach. He allowed me to instruct one class a week. From there, I developed to the point where I’m the director of kid’s program from 3-14 years old and I teach adults 3 times a week. This experience has shown me the rigorousness of understanding in a subject matter necessary for teaching. Additionally, it has shown me how to hold a room and how to communicate concepts across multiple levels of understanding.Moving forward, I (team) developed a simulation using SIMIO software which helped us generate a recommendation for optimal employee distribution in rush-hour for a high-volume coffee shop. More recently, we designed a layout proposal for a multiple concessionaire cafeteria in our university. This included engineering drawing and flow analysis, AutoCAD, economical analysis, and implementation plan. Later, as a student in the automation and robotics course, my interest peeked in this field. I approached the professor for the opportunity to deepen my knowledge and, given my performance in the course, I was offered a position as a TA. Here, I was able to further my experience in teaching and work hands on with PLCs, ladder logic programming, robotics components, and more. Finally, I currently work in a medical devices manufacturer as an operational excellence coop. So far, I have employed data analysis tools, received training in Lean, conducted and led a Kaizen event, participated in validations, learned about business management, received capacitation in tableau, drawn VSMs, executed time studies, Identified Cost Improvement opportunities around quality sampling, product lifecycle management via Agile, edited and proposed visuals for WIP management in manufacturing floor, and more.
