On Target was a cabling company and before I worked for them, they were one of my key business partners at my previous company, Fusion IP. Together we made a logical team – my company provided all the networking and IT needs for mid-sized companies, and On Target provided all of the physical cabling. It made sense to combine our efforts officially, so in 2012, On Target acquired Fusion and I came along as a third partner and their EVP of Sales & Marketing.We targeted companies with 500 to 2500 employees and $150M to $500M in annual revenues. The services we provided included cabling and wiring, security and alarms systems, network security, A/V, hosting (fax, ISP), SD-WAN, and networking. I took charge of the sales and marketing teams, and together we quickly became one of Orange County’s fastest growing companies, hitting #6 in 2016. By year one, we boosted sales by 42%, and in five years, we tripled that growth bringing in $26M in sales contracts. One of the service packages I developed and launched was coined “One Source” and it included 24/7 technical service and all-of-the-above products. The 10 sales reps I groomed had a $2.5M annual quota for this product and they nailed it every year.In addition to coaching the sales teams, I also worked a personal portfolio of high-profile clients, adding an additional $7M in revenues. On Target was acquired in 2017.

Our YOY growth consistently ranged between 10% and 33%. By year six our valuation was worth close to $6M, and as we set out to do from the very beginning, we were acquired by On Target.

I eventually became their third partner.Just as with Fusion IP, we were a 100% provider of Cisco Advanced Communications Systems, Security, and Networking. We targeted small to mid-sized companies in healthcare, retail, finance, and tech. I had a small team of three direct reports, and in five years, we grew our portfolio from $750K to close to $15M. Besides blowing out all my sales goals, I contributed three significant features to our sales and marketing process.The first was establishing a KPI tracking system to hold our sales agents accountable to their goals with clear rules and margins. This worked better than I could have imagined as we grew our revenues 1900% by 2006.In 2002, I launched a new demand generation campaign with the goal of bringing in larger companies. I hired and trained two new sales reps, and within a year we did what we set out to do, closed deals with bigger companies including PacifiCare Health Systems, White Cap Construction Supply, and Finance America.I also added a new product to our portfolio – the 24/7 Network Operation Center Service, and this became a significant earner helping us to stay in the black with an additional $2.5M in recurring revenue.
