Working for the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT) since 2005, I’m an experienced researcher in the fields of risk management and security in the Center for Digital Safety & Security. I studied Computer Science at the University of Klagenfurt and received my PhD in Theoretical Physics form the Technical University of Vienna, analyzing the security of quantum cryptographic protocols. My research focus lies on risk management and risk assessment for critical infrastructures as well as the integration of security architectures for such organizations. In this context, I’m working on novel risk assessment methodologies and processes applying game theoretic approaches. Further, I’m looking into mathematical concepts for the identification and handling of cascading effects within an organization and among critical infrastructures on a national scale. In the course of my research, I published several scientific articles as well as a Springer edited volume on the integration of risk management and game theory.From a project perspective, I have been coordinating the FP7 project HyRiM dealing with risk management in heterogeneous environments like utility networks. Currently, I’m working on the running H2020 project SAURON, investigating improved protection for port infrastructures, as well as the Austrian national research projects CERBERUS, GENESIS and others.
