Stefan is currently an Associate Director and (Acting) Director, Economic & Financial Market Forecast, in the Investment Strategy department at the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA). He is a strategic thinker and thought-leader on macroeconomics, financial markets, and economic policy, anchoring analysis on strong analytical skills and frameworks supported by a team of direct reports. Stefan also has a strong ability to distill complicated issues into clear and actionable analysis that provides macroeconomic insights and inform investment decisions at the portfolio, asset class, and country level. Another aspect is to conduct macroeconomic and market scenario analysis as well as analyzing return prospects over both the medium- and longer-term horizon. Last but not least, he is an effective and strong communicator with significant experience writing marketable analysis - he has been writing columns and contributions for leading local and international newspapers and investment magazines for years -, presenting to large as well as small audiences (e.g. high-net worth individuals, asset managers, investment advisors and institutional investors), and interacting with media (radio, TV and print journalists globally).Before joining QIA, Stefan was a Director and a Senior Global/Emerging Market Economist/Strategist at Allianz Global Investors, based in Frankfurt, Germany, with extensive experience analyzing the macroeconomic environment and its impact upon markets and asset classes to support the strategic & tactical asset allocation investment decisions. Stefan has a special focus on Emerging Markets, especially on Asia/China. In September 2014 Stefan started his dissertation in „Applied Economics“ at Hunan University in China. As one of the first German doctoral candidate at Hunan University he received a Chinese Government Scholarship.
