Researcher

Calgary

I picked up this project with a professor in the Health and Physical Education faculty and was fortunate to play a role in designing the study, which will commence over the following months. The Ticket 2 Play program is a fantastic endeavour put forward by the Calgary Police Service (CPS) and City of Calgary Recreation to help youth access recreation opportunities. In short, "tickets" (two City of Calgary recreation passes) are given to youth who have exhibited positive behaviour by CPS members. While there are several relevant aspects to the study, our main focus is identifying the social impacts of the program, specifically in regard to the stakeholders; the community, the CPS, and City of Calgary recreation. While similar programs have run across North America there has been very little literature conducted to date. It is our hope, then, to provide an initial study to direct future research.

The Calgary 2026 Olympic and Paralympic bid process was extremely complicated. Before much of the process went public, and well before the referendum, there was a 17-member task force of volunteers, mostly civic leaders from various economic, sport, tourism, and political realms, that assessed the feasibility and the prudence of hosting an Olympic and Paralympic Games in Calgary. I was very fortunate to play a role in coding the interviews for themes and then took part in shaping what culminated in this report.

Mount Royal Institute For Innovation And Entrepreneurship

Calgary

The Mount Royal Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship was approached by Own The Podium and asked to design a two-day innovation workshop for Canadian Olympic and Paralympic coaches. My role in the delivery of this workshop was to research current literature around innovative sport coaching, to which I found there was very little. There is, however, considerable literature on coach learning. My approach to the design of the workshop, then, was to take the inputs that factor into coaching and analyze how they influence the innovation chain. I can speak more to this, but as the work completed was a commissioned report, I'm not at liberty to divulge that information here.
