Stefanie Ann Lenway, Ph.D., is an International Business Consultant, Board Director, Author, and the Former Dean University of St. Thomas Opus College of Business. She is an experienced higher education leader and a scholar in international business, industry innovation and entrepreneurial studies through tracking the creation of the liquid crystal display industry from inception through commercialization. As a member of a board, she brings a global mindset, strategic thinking, and endless curiosity. She also brings experience in building a purpose driven culture and in problem solving using root cause analysis. As an academic leader, she brings business acumen and competitive analysis together with a career in scholarship and teaching. As a faculty member and dean, Lenway has served on four non-profit boards including AACSB (elected by business school Deans), Academy of International Business (elected by the membership), Academy of Management (elected by the membership, and the Minnesota Women’s Health Care Leadership Trust (appointed by the board members). Most recently in academic leadership, she joined the Opus College of Business as Dean and Opus Distinguished Chair in 2014 and concluded service as Dean on June 30, 2022. At Opus, she worked with college and university leadership to develop a strategic focus on principled leadership, entrepreneurship, and business in a digital world. The college developed a portfolio of graduate programs and certificates designed to provide students with key skills to work in the digital world. She also consulted with Fortune 10 to start up organizations on innovation and digital strategies.Before arriving at Opus, Lenway served as the Eli and Edythe L. Broad Dean of the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University from 2010 to 2014 and as the dean of the College of Business Administration at the University of Illinois at Chicago from 2005 to 2010. Lenway began her academic career as an Assistant Professor of Strategic Management and Organization at the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management in 1984. She remained at the Carlson School for 21 years and in 2002 was named the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs.While at the University of Minnesota, Lenway was named a McKnight Land-Grant Professor, received two best teacher awards in the Carlson Executive MBA Programs, and with international fieldwork funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, co-wrote her second book, Managing New Industry Creation: the Race to Commercialize Flat Panel Displays with Tom Murtha.
