Since 2003 I have continuously worked as a consultant for IISD Reporting Services in various functions.TEAM LEADER/WRITER, ENB As a Team Leader for the Earth Negotiations Bulletin (ENB), a reporting service on international environmental negotiations, I have managed international teams of up to ten writers, digital editors and translators during meetings of multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs). Responsibilities included: liaising with MEA Secretariats; managing the production of daily reports and website content as well as summaries and analyses of international environmental negotiations and meetings of scientific advisory bodies; providing internal briefings of meeting outcomes; mentoring team members; and contributing to the planning of future meeting coverage. Originally hired as a Research Associate, I was tasked with the development of an an innovative methodology to establish research priorities for Canadian ocean science in response to a request by a Consortium of Canadian Research Universities. Successful completion resulted in a follow-up request by the same client for an evidence-based assessment of Canada's capacity in ocean science. The methodology was applied in two subsequent assessments, which successfully broadened the portfolio of products and services offered by the Council.As Acting Program Director, I was responsible for the follow-up assessment on Canadian ocean science. Responsibilities included: selecting and managing a panel of experts; leading a team of researchers; and overseeing the drafting, review and publication of the assessment report. The project was completed on an accelerated timeline and a smaller budget, for a new type of client for which the Council had no previous experience.In parallel, I contributed to the research and writing of several energy related assessments:✦ I developed a critical appraisal method for detailed evaluation and comparison of scientific evidence on health impacts of wind turbine noise to create an accurate and impactful report.✦ I developed evidence-based projections of expected environmental impacts of expanded oil sands development to provide the first comprehensive baseline for assessing the impact of new technologies on environmental impacts of future oil sands production✦ I conducted in depth-research on the environmental impacts of hydraulic fracturing technologies for shale gas development.

This research fellowship (funded through an IASS research grant) provided me with an interesting opportunity to conduct academic research on the role of the science-policy interface in international environmental policy making for the transition towards sustainable societies. The "Science for Sustainable TRANSformations: Towards Effective GOVernance" (TRANSGOV) project explored how sustainability reform processes, such as the German energy transition (Energiewende) can be supported through the development and implementation of new governance systems that recognize the complexity of societal interactions and provide for involvement of non-state actors. During the fellowship, I authored and co-authored several publications and contributed to the organization of workshops and side events at UN meetings.
