About Stefano Zarattini
Tenure Track Researcher in Astrophysics at the Centro de Estudios de Física del Cosmos de Aragón (CEFCA). My main research interests are galaxy clusters and groups and the evolution of galaxies as a function of their environment. After studying at the Università degli Studi di Padova, I got my Ph.D. in 2015 at the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC). I had several postdoc experiences, the first one at the University of Trieste, followed by two years at the Commissariat à l'énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives (CEA), near Paris. I then moved back to Padova with a 2-year contract and I now joined the IAC with an open-end contract. In July 2024, I moved to CEFCA with a Tenure Track position focused on the search and characterisation of galaxy clusters and groups in the J-PAS survey.
Listed skills include Fisica, Latex, Scienza, Python, and 4 others.

Postdoctoral Researcher
I joined the WEAVE galaxy cluster survey team and I mainly worked on the analysis of the Science Verification data of the WEAVE instrument (LIFU mode). Along with that, I also worked on characterising the properties of galaxies (colours and morphology) depending on their position on the cosmic web, finding that the dominant effect in these two aspects is due to local over density, whereas if a galaxy is within a filament only a second order effect can be seen in colours and morphologies.
Postdoctoral Researcher
I worked on the photometric decomposition of the 66 bulgeless galaxies of the BEARD sample. The goal of this decomposition was to define quantitatively the fraction of the light that is due to the bulge in these galaxies. We found that more than 90% of the sample is indeed bulgeless, according to the most-used definition of bulge/total light ratio smaller than 0.1. We also characterise the galaxies in terms of their position of known scaling relations such as the Kormendy relation and the… Show more I worked on the photometric decomposition of the 66 bulgeless galaxies of the BEARD sample. We found that the bulges of bulgeless galaxies have smaller radii, when compared with normal bulges of the same masses. Show less
Postdoctoral Researcher
Post-doctoral position in Observational Cosmology. I worked on the optical validation of a new catalog of galaxy clusters. I lead various successful observational proposals to top-class telescopes. In the last year I mainly worked in developing a new code to compute photometric redshifts using the Pan-STARRS survey. This code uses a set of about 2 million galaxies with known spectroscopic redshifts as the training set, then it uses all the available color information to estimate galaxy… Show more Post-doctoral position in Observational Cosmology. I received an "assegno di ricerca" grant to work on the comparison between models/simulations and observations using the CLASH-VLT data on galaxy clusters. I mainly worked on the presence of galaxy substructures in galaxy clusters, starting from a set of simulated clusters in which the characteristics (mass, relative position and velocity) were known a priori. Guest Scientist
During my Ph.D. in Tenerife, I also maintain my collaboration with Padova. In fact, mine was a joint Ph.D. between the two Universities. After defending my thesis, I went back to Padova to carry on the work on galaxy populations in central galaxies of fossil groups.
Astrofísico Residente
During my Ph.D. I worked on the topic of fossil galaxy groups. I focused my attention on different aspects: as a first step, I worked on the global properties of the clusters, then I moved to galaxy luminosity functions, to substructures, and stellar populations in their central galaxies.
