This is our Thesis: Digital health technologies have the power to transform healthcare. Yet many new technologies are hitting ‘last mile" issues and failing to deliver on their promise. We believe that access to the creative minds and patients at our world class medical center can drive insights into the successful development, implementation, and adoption of new digital health technologies. My role is to help envision how to integrate DHealth into the architecture and mission of our future medical center and to be the conduit for collaboration between the orthopedic team and the medical center on D. Health initiatives.
  • Digital Orthopaedics Conference
    Founder And Chair
Digital Orthopaedics Conference Dec 2016 - Present
    San Francisco, Ca, Us
The UCSF Digital Orthopaedic Conference San Francisco (DOCSF) was conceived out of a strong desire to deliver to patients what they are demanding: digitally-enabled health care. Why focus on orthopaedics? For many reasons. Orthopaedics is high-volume. It is high-cost. It is a low-variation specialty with its short-cycle time. Moreover, orthopaedics addresses problems that account for more than 30 percent of all primary care visits. For all of these reasons, orthopaedics is the perfect space for anyone testing new solutions to most common problems in health care: improving access, quality and cost.DOCSF serves as a venue for visionary leaders to rapidly advance technological development in orthopaedics – in doing so, creating a new model in health care delivery. The conference also examines the challenges of implementing technology to current healthcare platforms – without special effort on the part of the patient. We also look at how technology will enable us to better engage and communicate – using doctor-to-patient apps and telemedicine. For more infromation, please visit http://docsf.ucsf.edu/.

You have heard of multiple change management methodologies such as Six Sigma, Lean, Emergent and Agile but they seem a bit too complicated and perhaps more than you really need for the task at hand. What do you do? You read this book. We think we can help! More specifically, we think TES can help. TES takes elements from the most effective change management and organizational design theories of the modern era and simplifies them while adding a few new ideas. The result is a streamlined, efficient tool that teams can use without any prior training, additional resources or for that matter, C-suite involvement. Over and over again we saw our teams rise to the occasion and deliver results that had escaped them in the past, sometimes for years. And then continue to improve! We describe one such success story in excruciating detail in this book with the idea that it will answer any question that might arise when you implement TES with your team.https://www.facebook.com/StefanoBiniAuthor/
  • Insilicotrials
    Medical Advisor
    Insilicotrials Jul 2018 - Sep 2022
    Wilmington, Delaware, Us
Honored to be a Medical Advisor to InSilicoTrials and Luca Emili's team. In Silico Trials works with Pharma and Medical Devices companies to create a secure cloud-based computational hub in an easy and cost effective way. The hub will democratize access to costly but frequently idle platforms to smaller teams thereby providing a revenue source for the owner/developer of the asset and allowing research teams to redirect scarce resources from software development/ acquisition to product testing and development. Further, as many of these complex models allow for in-silico testing that will vastly decrease the need for in-vivo testing, their wider availability will greatly expedite the development of novel therapeutic drugs and tools at a fraction of the time and cost.

    Oakland, California, Us
2006-2011- Chief of Orthopaedics2011-2015- Chief of Adult Reconstruction As Chief of Orthopedics at the Oakland Medical Center, I decreased the budget, restructured the Department to have a specialty specific format, doubled the surgical volume and the clinical volume, developed a surgical podiatry service, was able to meet access and quality metrics, and prepared the Department for a move to its new hospital. In 2009, I decided to pursue research and academic service. I voluntarily promoted my Assistant Chief to Chief and assumed responsibility for the adult reconstruction service. The streamlined operations we implemented in concert with our health plan partners brought a standardized care protocol to the service with exceptional results. Our length of stay in the hospital dropped to 1.5 days with an 80% home discharge rate; our number of total joints per day ranged from 3 to 4 approximately 80% of the time; our backlogs went down and our service scores up. Due the excellence in the care provided, 30% of our patients came from outside our service area. During this period, I was also able to increase my focus on research and, as a result, became more active in both the national and the international speaking circuit and was able to publish a number of articles listed elsewhere.
