Having started my first company as a mobile DJ at the age of 17, I have always had an enthusiasm for developing businesses and innovating in different sectors. I set up the Gusto construction business at the age of 20 with an old wheelbarrow and van, gaining experience from the ground up. My interest in sustainability started in the early 90s and I bought my first fully electric car 24 years ago. Our Gusto Homes business has played a leading role in developing sustainable communities and low-energy housing for over 25 years.We purchased the Rototek rotational moulding company in 2010 from the administrators, and it is now an industry-leading manufacturer employing over 130 staff and innovating across a wide range of products including sailing dinghies. Alongside building innovative companies within Gusto Group, I have a passion for re-investing profits back into start-up companies and social enterprises, especially plant-based food companies and those focused on innovative ways of tackling the climate crisis. I dipped my toe into politics and supported a new single-issue party called the Climate Party as their chairman for 18 months. The purpose was to promote the economic benefits to the UK of moving towards a zero-carbon economy. I spent 10 years as a director and Chairman of Lincoln City FC where we put a sustainable business model in place while trying to gain a promotion. I am now the Chairman of a progressive step 5 football club, Newark and Sherwood United FC, winning the Notts senior cup in our first season. I have started and supported several social enterprises focussed on environmental sustainability and spoken on this subject and entrepreneurship at many conferences over the years. We are in the process of transitioning the Gusto Group to become a 100% employee-owned company and are a certified B Corp.When not at my laptop I enjoy kite surfing and snowboarding and am slowly getting into cycling!!
