In the Buyer position I still assumed the responsibilities of the Purchasing Assistant but I managed only my commodity base. Perceptron had 2 Buyers and while we could easily backfill each other, we were each responsible for managing our orders from start to finish. I was the Buyer for electronics, cable assemblies, fasteners, hardware, software, technology components, office supplies and janitorial supplies. I loved the daily challenges and the excitement in the air regarding a new project or one near completion, I loved seeing a project take shape, helping in the pre-production procurement and pilot runs and then seeing it take off from there! I loved being able to contribute to so many different departments besides Purchasing: I was very invlolved and worked closely with Finance, Customer Service and Shipping/Receiving. My activities changed daily and I never knew what the day would bring when I walked in the door and I liked that. Perceptron went through a round of layoffs in March 2016 and my position was eliminated. Although I am saddened that this happened, I look forward to my next opportunity.

This opportunity to assist the Customer Service Department presented itself and I jumped on board to help our company out and give myself a change of scenery. My responsibilities at the Front Desk included: professionally greeting customers and guests, answering a multiple line phone and assuring each call was handled promptly and professionally, disposition of incoming/outgoing mail, faxes and emails, and ordering supplies and maintaining (3) coffee stations. While maintaining a very neat and organized Front Desk, I was also still responsible in my role as a Buyer for the company.

I was hired into this position from a contract period (August 1998-February 1999) I supported between 2-3 Purchasing Agents by verifying purchase requisitions prior to ordering, entering orders into the purchasing system, sending orders to suppliers via mail, fax or email, following up on overdue orders, rescheduling orders and maintaining the filing system. I was solely responsible for ordering and maintaining the office supplies, also for ordering business cards, nameplates, letterhead items, manuals, hardware and electronics. I worked closely with Accounting and Receiving departments.
