Network Administrator & Systems Administrator I
CurrentIn support of Network/Cyberspace Operations missions, I assist with the daily administration of multiple networks and server environments. I monitor network performance and conduct testing to diagnose issues and assist with the deployment of solutions. Working in Active Directory, I manage Group Policy Objects, Organizational Units, and user permissions. I perform health checks on domain controllers and DHCP servers, ensuring proper replication, connectivity, and availability. I utilize vSphere, Solarwinds, and ServiceNow as part of my duties of ensuring the continued operations of our 24/7/365 environment. In this role, I ensure appropriate compliance with Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and support the ability of warfighters domestically and abroad to execute their missions.
Information Technology Specialist, Physical Security Officer
CurrentFor the past several years I have maintained and operated various network and communications systems. In providing network connectivity to a wide range of customers I configured switches, routers, firewalls, and other network equipment primarily through the command line interface. I ensured the physical security of devices and loaded encryption keys to facilitate the secure transmission of sensitive and classified information. My duties also included running fiber optic and ethernet cables. Also, I was responsible for implementing and troubleshooting DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server and IP address assignment. In addition to monitoring network performance, I performed system administrator functions–creating groups and assigning roles in Active Directory and Microsoft Sharepoint. Additionally, I have provided helpdesk support in a joint operations center, assisting users from various US service branches and allied partner nation forces with desktop, network, and account access problems. Also in JOC environments, I assisted various directorates, including the intelligence directorate with troubleshooting GIS software, VPN connectivity, and cloud file sharing. Researching the capabilities and practices of near-peer-threats and APT hacker groups I briefed and presented my findings to the other members of my unit. As a unit, we took measures to ensure against unauthorized access to our networks and devices. As a routine part of this position, I configure Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs) for data and voice, tunnels, trunks and manage port security. Hardware maintenance was also a common duty, changing batteries on uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and reimaging computers.
Founder, Director Of Operations & Technology
RND Coffee was founded with the intention of providing an approachable specialty coffee experience to the folks of Roanoke. At RND Coffee, I transformed a "pop-up" coffee bar into a full-service, multi-facility operation, expanding from a retail-only business into wholesale business-to-business sales. Managing the opening of new facilities, I designed layouts and procured equipment. Recruitment, hiring, and training of staff to step into leadership positions were key aspects of my role as we grew the team from two individuals to 15+ employees. I designed and maintained the business website, incorporating media and commerce functionality, and also filmed and edited promotional videos using professional lighting and editing tools. Those 100+ short-form videos garnered 325,000+ views for our Instagram pages. Since creating RND Coffee’s social media presence I have grown the company’s followers to over 6,000 and facilitated increased foot traffic and revenues via organic content engagement and through ad campaigns I ran. Directing the vision and culture of the company and brand, I earned the company placement in the “Best of” features of the local publication each year since we opened. I created and designed a product that got the company national recognition, placing second in the drink category of the 2021 “Made in the South” awards of Garden & Gun Magazine. Before that, another product I profiled and directed the creation of placed #20 on the “Top 30 Coffees of 2020” as rated by the national coffee industry review site Coffee Review. In the cafes, I installed digital menu screens and implemented a system that could update the display remotely. I also installed the cameras and stereo systems for our cafes, added them to our network, and created user guides for our employees to use when updating or troubleshooting those systems. I created spreadsheet-based tools for the tracking and planning of inventory and price setting.
Information Center Agent
At Virginia Tech, I provided technical support and responded to help desk tickets from a diverse range of stakeholders including students, faculty, staff, alumni, and other individuals. Real-time troubleshooting and customer support were a large part of this role and required assisting users over the phone and via Zoom video sessions. I regularly simplified technical topics to make it easier for non-technical users to understand. Detailed documentation of troubleshooting measures and other pertinent details was reported for each ticket I worked on. I successfully resolved 3500+ tickets without needing to escalate or transfer the issue. I assisted users with installing and troubleshooting many different tools and software programs like Mathworks Matlab, Virtual Box, Parallels, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Creative Suite. Utilizing tools such as Active Directory, Cloud Computing Services Admin tool, Splunk, Opsgenie, ServiceNow, and DUO Mobile admin portal–I assisted users in modifying their account passwords and security settings. Monitoring critical systems and networks, I promptly responded to alarms by troubleshooting network issues and paged on-call staff when necessary. Additionally, I collaborated with the Information Technology Security Office to address phishing attempts and secure compromised accounts. I managed user permissions in response to account compromise–revoking network access, locking two-factor authentication, and suspending university accounts. Forensic and investigative work included reviewing authentication logs, network activity logs, and Pulse Secure VPN connection attempts.
Shift Lead & Brand Ambassador
Fostering and maintaining exceptional guest and customer experiences were central to my role as a Brand Ambassador at Deschutes Brewery. I guided guests through our product offerings and explained some of the technical aspects of the brewing process when they were interested. I collected and analyzed product data to track and anticipate customer and market trends. I built spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel and used the data I collected to inform which products and what volume of products to order for our facility. I handled basic technology installation for the facility–maintaining point-of-sale updates and the Oculus Rift Virtual Reality headset in the user experience area. As a shift lead, I also Interviewed and trained new brand ambassadors to ensure consistent quality standards were upheld.
Production And Media Manager

Researching and integrating industry best practices into operations enhanced efficiency and product quality.
Podcast Host
I created and hosted a short-run series of business and entrepreneurship-focused podcasts titled Refreshingly Innovative. I secured and scheduled talent for each episode, and executed location audio/visual recording, monitoring, setup, and teardown. I interviewed entrepreneurs, CEOs, and non-profit executives in the Richmond area. I managed the RSS feed, website, social media pages, and cross-promotion to help grow the podcast's audience.
Special Education Instructional Assistant
My primary role at Richmond Public Schools was assisting with instruction in an exceptional education, low-incidence classroom. I planned and organized community-based instruction (CBI) outings, and designed classroom instructional resources and materials. I evaluated and responded to the needs of students, parents, and coworkers. Another main aspect of this role was resenting lessons and assisting students with questions to facilitate their learning.
Facility Operations Program Assistant
Promoted up through several positions–including facility manager and facility supervisor–I ultimately served as a Program Assistant at VCU Recreational Sports. Before being promoted I led shifts of 15+ facility operations staff and directed emergency medical response procedures when health emergencies arose. Once promoted to the program assistant position, I provided training, leadership, and management for Facility Managers, Facility Supervisors, and Facility Operations staff. Ensuring customer expectations and needs were met, I led and facilitated orientation, customer service training, and risk management training for new Recreational Sports employees across the 7 organizational departments. I researched hardware and software programs and tailored them for use by facility operations staff.
