Work is a BIG deal. What one does is a huge part of who they are. Once upon a time, last names used to be taken from one's work. Obviously, there is more than a little pride in what we do and the difference we make.But it goes both ways. We have an effect on our work, but our work has an effect on us. In today's turbulent times, work increasingly provides a rough ride. Who hasn't felt stressed by work? Studies confirm that the stress from work is one of the most significant factors of our well-being. Work can literally kill you. (Please don't stop reading here.)Work can also be a great source of well-being and gratification. When one believes that their work is valued by others, it makes them not only feel good, they're actually healthier. (They even live longer.)"To enhance the performance, potential and well-being of people and organizations at work." That's my thing.The field of Industrial/Organizational Psychology is still small and rather unknown. But the need for its service is great, so that's changing. Labor markets abhor a vacuum and many have been "sucked in" to this demanding, but critical discipline.Who will you trust to help you navigate the whitewater of today's uncertain world of work?To be clear, practicing psychology at work is complex, but it doesn't doesn't need to be complicated. True experts deal with the complexity by their expertise, but reduce the complication by their deep understanding and clear communication.My mentor in grad school told me, "If you really understand this stuff, you can explain it to a third-grader."
