Primary responsibilities revolve around mechanical design for modifications to C-130 aircraft

Lead engineer/subject matter expert on in-house manufactured line of automatic tray forming machines. Designed and managed these builds, including some custom one-off builds. Recently completed a full machine re-design and overhaul. All tooling sets designed from scratch, specific to tray being formed. Responsibilities included mechanical design for manufacture, 2D drawing creation, managing and coordinating projects/machine builds/installs, communicating with and providing direction and hands-on assistance to fabricators, CNC programming and machining (among other light-to-moderate fabrication duties), quoting of manufactured parts, spec'ing and quoting of machinery, line/room layouts, machine installs, mechanical assembly of machinery, machine wiring, panel wiring, train/assist junior engineers.Large projects which I was lead include:- All tray former machine and tooling builds, as well as rebuilds and upgrades (15-30/yr, starting in Sept 2019)- Reverse engineering/design, fabrication, assembly, install of hydraulic coconut splitters- Design and install of custom sanitary/wash-down material handling equipment for use in both small and large scale food production- Large batch size production runs of CNC-milled parts for in-house built line of tray formers and VFFS baggers (conducted the entire process: part design, toolpath programming, source material, machine setup, and machining execution)Skills developed: Design for manufacturing and assembly, project management, HSMWorks, 3-axis CNC milling, DraftSight, sheet metal design and fabrication (including water jet), industrial wiring/electrical standards, sensor integration, material applications and specifications, hydraulic systems, misc fabrication techniques, general assembly techniques, troubleshooting in the field (including electrical troubleshooting), vision system integration for QA (Cognex), some exposure to ladder logic/PLC programming, some exposure to industrial robotics (Fanuc 6-axis & delta)

Main project involved the development, integration, and expansion upon a Robot Operating System (ROS) package for a mobile humanoid robot, Aldebaran's Nao. Learned Python scripting and Linux terminal navigation throughout the course of this project.ROS consultant for the geophysics department's new surveying robot, the Clearpath Robotics Husky A-200. Gave tours of the lab, participated in outreach events around campus and at local elementary schools.

Assisted lead project engineer with day-to-day activities: Used AutoCAD to compile and edit several process flow diagrams and piping & instrumentation diagrams involving existing and future molten salt energy storage systems at solar plants; constructed, proofread, and contributed to several technical documents concerning Abengoa's large scale solar plants. Project with R&D: Investigated combining molten salt thermal energy storage with compressed air energy storage to increase system efficiency and eliminate emissions from natural gas utilization.
