I design customer specific machines with sub micrometer precision. It all starts with a kick-off meeting with the customer and ends with the finished and tested product delivered on site to the customer. With assistance of our product managers, a presales design and a specification list I design a full custom machine. Look for what component to buy at which supplier or see which of our supplier can machine our custom made parts to spec. Meanwhile (trying to) keep the project within budget and meeting the requested delivery time.My favorite project is the production of 4 air bearing rotation tables. The rotation tables have a load capacity of 1500kg and a radial error motion smaller than 100 nm. Due to the high specifications for these rotation table, every part needs to go to multiple specialty suppliers to achieve the best possible accuracy. The start of this project was a similar rotation table made 3 years ago. Me and the product manager went over the previous design, what was good, what was bad and how could we improve the design. After a few iterations we designed the new version which is 50 kg lighter and incorporates a new safety system to prevent the table from rotating when there is a problem with the air supply.This job pushes the boundaries of what is possible in the world of ultra precision machines and that is why I work here.

I worked as a design engineer and my main responsibilities are the development of new electric motors. I design the mechanical, electrical and magnetic (winding) aspects of the motor. I create all the drawings and compile the BOM so the production team can produce the motors.One of my most recent projects is the development of an explosion proof brushless DC motor. Deciding how we can integrate the electronics in the motor while keeping the motor compact and explosion proof. Developing a new rotor design for the use of internal magnets using FEA to achieve the maximum power output. Currently there are two working prototypes. I wrote a manual on how to program the controller and a full report on the project.
