I traveled extensively - including a trip to Antarctica and backpacking through Torres del Paine in Chile - and trained for and competed in my first strongman competition. I joined Rakuten via the Manifest (Socialwire) acquisition in 2016.Manifest was acquired by Rakuten, Japan's largest e-commerce company ($13 billion market cap), in early 2016 and continues to operate and sell its original product and technology.Manifest provides marketing software that programmatically merchandises retailers'​ product catalogs and delivers hyper-targeted product ads across multiple advertising platforms.As Manifest's first engineer and head of engineering, I built our product and technical organization from scratch. I built a team of top engineers and data scientists and led them through a period of extreme growth from MVP through acquisition.

I worked with Crimson Hexagon's research team to build, configure, benchmark, and maintain a custom Hadoop cluster and HBase deployment. I also prototyped several Twitter-related data-mining projects using Hadoop, HBase, and Redis.

Flock was an early social music discovery app (remember pre-Spotify?). It recommended awesome new music to you based on what your friends and folks with similar tastes enjoy.I recruited an early team, led our product vision, co-designed our UX, and single-handedly built and architected our backend social graph, streaming music platform, and recommendation engine. I led partner and investor outreach, marketing efforts, and even hustled on the street to find our first several hundred users.

As an early engineer and one of the first ten employees, I worked as the CTO's right hand to make critical engineering decisions, write core pieces of our infrastructure and product, and help recruit/hire. Designed and built a distributed search and machine learning infrastructure for datamining public opinion from a 200+ billion document dataset of social media posts, including the full Twitter firehose.Since 2010, CH has grown into an international company with over 10,000 active users and $37.5mm in funding.
