I am a Senior International Correspondent who has been reporting from Asia and Europe for more than two decades. I moved to Moscow in February 2019 to become Aljazeera’s English correspondent in Russia and extensively covered the uprising in Belarus in 2020. Currently working out of Berlin as roaming Europe correspondent for Aljazeera English. I have won a 2021 Bronze Telly Award for my film Women in Belarus, a fearless cry for change, an Academy Award for my coverage of the Indian Ocean Tsunami in 2004 and was nominated Best Documentary for our film Trail of Murder, Indonesia's bloody retreat from East Timor at the Singapore Asian awards. For more than a decade I have managed the Bureau for Aljazeera English based in Indonesia. With my extensive knowledge and experience in both Europe and Asia I am a regular guest and host at television programs, international conferences and TEDX talks. In 2019 I presented a 5 part TV Series on the Dutch icon fighting for womens voting rights Aletta Jacobs. I am also an experienced trainer and teacher and regularly coach students, bureaucrats and diplomats. In 2011 I wrote the book Jihad with Sambal about the changing face of Islam in Indonesia. I am an experienced multi media journalist and mobile journalist skilled in live reporting on television, radio, writing for newspapers and magazines, editing, filming, blogging, vlogging. Before working for Aljazeera I worked as a correspondent for NOS TV and Radio from the Netherlands. I have a Masters decree in Social Psychology and a Bachelors in Journalism and Communication.
