I am a primary special education teacher. Throughout the past 7 years, I have supported Kindergarten through 2nd grade through various models including full-time co-teaching, push-in support, consultative support, and pull-out direct instruction services. I have serviced students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), specific learning disabilities (SLD), other health impairments (OHI), emotional disturbance (ED), speech or language impairment, intellectual disabilities, and multiple disabilities.As a primary special education teacher, I work collaboratively with families and school-based colleagues to provide adequate individualized support for students with disabilities. I have been a full-time co-teacher in both 1st grade and 2nd grade. As a co-teacher, I work closely with the general education teacher to plan meaningful lessons, implement universal design for learning (UDL) practices, implement accommodations and modifications per student's IEPs, and measure student progress through mandated assessments and progress monitoring toward IEP goals.I have also provided push-in support in which my schedule allows for support in the general education classroom for specific parts of the day based on student need. I also consult with teachers to implement classroom accommodations and collect data for students in classrooms without direct support from a special education teacher. I have also provided direct instruction to students in a special education classroom in areas including phonics, reading comprehension, writing, math calculation and problem-solving, and social-emotional learning.I utilize the skills I have learned in my master's program to provide evidence-based instruction to students in phonics, phonemic awareness, and other areas of reading. I have experience implementing a variety of reading curriculums such as Fundations, Sonday, and Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI).As a special education professional, I also work with the school team to implement interventions to students through a multi-tiered systems and supports (MTSS) model prior to the evaluation process. I have years of experience developing, supporting, and revising IEPs for students across Kindergarten through 4th grade.
