Having recently completed a Master's in Genetic Counselling, I am on the lookout for Associate Genetic Counsellor roles. I am also open to opportunities in research or project management related to genetics or genetic counselling. I have experience providing genetic counselling in a wide range of circumstances, having completed placements at the Adult Genetics Unit, Paediatric and Reproductive Genetics Unit, and Repromed. I have experience building relationships with patients, eliciting questions and concerns and addressing the social and emotional aspects of their condition. My genetic risk assessment skills are well developed, and I can competently convey complex genetic information in a simple way in order to promote informed and values-aligned decision making.Having begun a degree in medicine before pivoting to genetic counselling, I understand the perspectives of clinicians and am adept at professional communication with other genetics specialists. In addition, my understanding of human physiology, biochemistry, and disease is well developed, as demonstrated by my academic record.I enjoy collaborating in multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality healthcare for clients with complex medical or psychosocial needs.To date, my professional experience has been in administration, where I have developed strong time-management, computer, and communication skills. On a personal level, I have a strong sense of social justice, having volunteered with the Australian Youth Climate Coalition for many years as well as stints in refugee advocacy.
