About Steph Maher

I started my career in Disability Support while studying my Bachelor of Nursing at RMIT. I was a Registered Emergency Department Nurse for many years who specialised in Trauma and Mental Health Nursing. After a long break... I returned to study a Post Graduate Certificate and Diploma of Health Promotion at Deakin.I believe prevention is far better (less traumatic and inexpensive) than cure. We need a greater understanding in the community of the reasons why people become unwell... being the Social Determinants of Health. If we improve the SDoH in our community everyone has a better opportunity to thrive. I am currently employed by The Salvation Army to co-facilitate 'Project Hope'.I also actively participate in six Lived Experience Panels and am passionate about various Social Justice issues, especially improving the Criminal Justice System in Australia.
