This included collaboration with various consultants to complete a State of the Watershed report for the Oldman Watershed, where my responsibilities include assessment of the basin’s water quality, aquatic ecosystem health, and relationship of land use practices to those parameters, with the goal of providing land use managers with the information they need to effectively manage water resources in the watershed. In addition to my work on this project, I managed the Aquatic Effects Monitoring Project for the Jericho Mine development in Nunavut and am involved in all aspects of this project including biological sampling (fish communities, zooplankton, phytoplankton, water quality, benthic invertebrates, and sediment chemistry), data analyses, reporting, and client liaison. I also acted as project manager for the ongoing benthic invertebrate and periphyton biomonitoring and selenium monitoring for the Cheviot and Luscar Mine Projects for Elk Valley Coal and, again, was involved in all aspects of this project from study design to field sampling to final reporting. In addition, I was responsible for the management, study design, and reporting components for Grande Cache Coal Mine’s aquatic biomonitoring and selenium monitoring program. I have coauthored reports on water quality and benthic invertebrate communities for the Oldman River (within the Piikani reserve) and assessed the effects of the proposed Dunvegan Dam Project on water quality in the Peace River.
