About Stephanie Prince

I manage a programme of international marine conservation projects that have the ultimate goal of reducing the numbers of seabirds, and in particular albatrosses and petrels bycaught in High Seas longline fisheries. I coordinate science, policy and advocacy work with global high seas fisheries for the BirdLife International Marine Programme. I remotely line manage staff in Japan and Taiwan and ensure that we meet the goals of the projects. For three years I worked in the sub-Antarctic researching wildlife for the British Antarctic Survey and spent over a year co-managing an Antarctic base, where I was responsible for the health and safety of up to 50 personnel. Previously a warranted Environment Officer with broad experience in environmental management, including in the waste, water and agricultural industries. Specialities in pollution incident management, auditing, water quality, enforcement, water resources and project management. My role involved; monitoring nesting of all wandering albatross on the island as well as specific colonies of the other albatross species, bird ringing, fitting birds with GLS trackers, weighing chicks, diet sampling and identification of krill, otoliths and squid beaks. I also assisted in work on gentoo and macaroni penguins conducting counts, weighing birds, pit tagging, diet sampling and maintaining and calibrating the penguin weighbridge . Non bird work on the island involved monitoring the population of Antarctic fur seals in which I assisted weighing pups and flipper tagging.During the summer season there was up to ten personnel on the island but over winter there were only four for a period of eight months.
