Work in my laboratory focuses on ion channels. These transmembrane proteins act as molecular switches that regulate the flux of ions across the otherwise ion-impermeable biological membranes. They play crucial roles in numerous physiological processes, such as neuronal and cardiac excitability and their dysfunction can cause pain, epilepsy, and cardiac arrhythmias, making them front-line therapeutic targets. My laboratory uses a wide range of electrophysiological and chemical biology-based approaches to decipher the molecular function and pharmacology of these proteins.
