I’m a maverick product designer. I’m gregarious and empathetic, but I work alone. I’m outspoken, but diplomatic. I’m detail-oriented, but consider my work in the broadest context. I’m continually searching for ways to make life on earth as enjoyable as possible for as long as possible. Designing mass-produced gadgetry is not the most direct path to that goal, but it is what I am best at. I do it as responsibly as I can. I’m happy to pursue other paths to that goal when I notice them.I’m a bit of an innovative Luddite. I try to design tools that help the most people do what must be done using the minimum of resources. These are typically low-tech hand tools that might have been designed a century ago, but weren’t. They ease frustration for those disabled by mass-marketed solutions that don’t suit them: Women, left-handers, oldsters or people without disposable incomes. I also design furniture and machinery.I can provide production-ready designs in response to a problem. With no investment, you can see a finished product and decide whether to license it. You can’t, however, predict when a project will be done. I may have an immediate workable solution, but a much better one later. The best solution may be one you are unprepared to implement. I’m skilled at analysis, ideation, mechanical design, CAD (SolidWorks), sculpting, CMF, prototyping, documentation for patenting and production. I have a rhetoric degree from U. C. Berkeley, and studied filmmaking at San Francisco State. I’ve studied product design at Art Center College of Design’s Swiss campus. I’ve worked for designers in Milan and Paris. I’ve worked in Silicon Valley at Caliper Technologies, designing lab-on-a-chip equipment and at Sentient Energy designing electrical testing equipment. I've served as vice president of the Silicon Valley Inventor's Alliance, succeeded by inventRight's Andrew Krauss.I’m happy to help anyone dissatisfied with existing products or with the way they are produced or distributed.
