I have been working in education since 2003. I began by teaching EFL during the day and teaching evening classes in dance. Later I gained a part-time lecurers post teaching EFL. In order to further my career I decided study teaching. My time at Moray House and teaching in the field as a student teacher, allowed me to focus my ideas and beliefs in teaching into tangible pedagogy. I also understood that developing skills rather than just understanding was critical and used this time with this as a focus.My probation year provided me with many opportunities. We received more training and peer observation due to the upcoming HMIE re-inspection than we would have otherwise experienced. This also occurring at a time when there are great changes to the curriculum meant staff were empowered and expected to make quite sweeping changes.I have a range of skills I bring with me into my teaching. My 1st degree and line of work was in IT. As a result I am eager to make full use of ICT resources such at smartboards, PDAs, interactive resources, video cameras, tapes and digital media. My experience in EFL means I have a much better understanding of grammar and phonetics than most native English speakers and am used to communication with people who have English as an additional language.Having performed and taught dance, I am more than happy to introduce dance as a block of physical activity or an after school club. Dance is an area that has come under focus with the new Curriculum for Excellence.I am also the sort of person who is happy to give it a go and try new things. I loved participating in activities such as caving at the residential camp in Benmore, as a learning assistant at Wardie Primary I was in the pool supporting one of the children who had muscular dystrophy. In my own time I have worked with Edinburgh City Mission in a project to help the homeless. I chose to become a teacher because it is something I enjoy doing.Specialties: I would be equally happy to teach EFL, or to teach the primary curriculum either locally or at an international school abroad.
