Stephan Rinderknecht is full Professor (W3) for Mechatronic Systems in Mechanical Engineering since 2009 at Technical University of Darmstadt. His research focus is on mechatronic vehicle systems, energy systems and general actuated systems. On some of his research fields as for example innovative drivetrains and propulsion systems for e-mobility as well as highly integrated designs for kinetic energy storage systems he works in very close cooperation with industry and spin-offs of the his institute. For others like active piezo electric systems to reduce bending vibrations of flexible rotors the projects approach more fundamental problems. With the expertise both in vehicle and energy systems, his group gives emphasis to the new research field of sectorial integration.Before becoming university professor, Stephan Rinderknecht worked in the automotive transmission industry for more than 13 years and left the company GETRAG in the position of senior vice president research and development. He graduated and received his doctoral degree at University of Stuttgart in the faculty of Aerospace Engineering.
