I am a partner in and have been the CEO of Resource Group since June 2017 as part of my on-going 30-year career in the aviation and aerospace industry. Our objective is to continue to build a vertically integrated aerospace skills business with a powerful brand, encompassing technical and flight crew personnel and training solutions that address critical skills-shortages, while staying tuned to topics such as sustainability, digitalization, changing consumer behavior and other trends that affect our customers and society. We strive to make decisions in our business grounded in our core values, which we have articulated and share with our staff. We understand that our success comes from helping our customers perform better, by being able to demonstrate the value we add. Core competencies are irrelevant unless they achieve this.‘Social Impact’ is a term used often in the context of environmental sustainability, but it means much more than that. The positive social impact of aviation is compelling, connecting communities, and as driver of world trade employing more than 60 million people, it is the only global, truly integrated mass-transportation system for people and goods. If aviation was a country, it would be the world’s 20th largest by GDP. This also comes with its challenges, from an environmental perspective, global aviation contributes to 2.5% of global CO2 emissions, and with passenger numbers expected to continue to grow, the challenge we face is balancing the huge social and economic benefits with our environmental footprint, to create a ‘sustainable future’, which is truly sustainable in the full sense of the word. Resilience is also a new frontier for our industry, which is evolving to be able to rapidly respond to future shocks through developing business models that are inherently more flexible, easily scalable and collaborative.
