Coming from a non traditional background and being of the Xennial generation, I appreciate growing up during the bridge from analog to digital. Raised in a fishing village on S'Klallam tribe land and coming from a financially fragile family, nature was more accessible than technology. I took the path of least resistance and learned what I could about homesteading, holistic health and following in my outlaw-ish gypsy ancestors’ footsteps. I have spent the last ten years as a Master Gardener cultivating, cloning, and managing vegetation using my intimate knowledge of plant growing techniques and best practices. Since I have always had a fascination with computers, it made sense to take advantage of my interest in technology through learning how to code. From daydreaming I was programming a spaceship in the backseat of my mom’s Datsun 210 hatchback to the feeling of seeing my first “hello world,” this journey is only just beginning. Everything I have learned in my life is because I have had to be resourceful and curious; coding is no different. I joined the apprenticeship program at Learners Guild in Oakland CA in 2017. Realizing that in order thrive in this current economy I had to figure out how my skills and experience fit into the technology sector. When I entered the Learners Guild, I wanted to learn how to support my community using code. While there I learned some things, built some things that did the thing, and after many error messages and many a strategic console.log. I am ready to use this new superpower to start contributing to an awesome team. I am excited to continue learning new tools and taking on challenging projects.
