Our difference is our approach, which pairs individual 1st-grade through 10th-grade students with a single adult volunteer for the duration of the school year. Students receive all the benefits of regular, weekly instruction combined with the advantages of a steady, supportive relationship.The SMART program for 1st through 5th graders focuses on five areas of student achievement: Social Emotional Learning, Mathematics, Accountability, Reading, and Technology. Within the context of building trusting relationships with our volunteers, students focus on homework review, executive functioning skills, and developmental experiences that combine learning and reflection.

Quantifying Biology in the Classroom QBIC is a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences track for exceptional students who want a more in-depth, interdisciplinary approach to studying, understanding and conducting research in the biological sciences. Traditional STEM courses (e.g. General Biology, Genetics, Cell Biology) are taken within the cohort in addition to weekly journal clubs in these (and other) biological concepts; funded research opportunities and mentoring are other resources provided by the QBIC program.

Through the fantastic opportunity of joining The Summer Research Internship, we were added to a lab and conducted a mini-research project within the 10 weeks of the internship. I was working under Dr. Joshua Hutcheson in the Cardiovascular Matrix Remodeling Laboratory, my project revolved around the effect of Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells (VSMC) with a CAV1 knockdown, in combination with Meta Beta Cyclodextrin (MBCD), in controlled and osteogenic media would have on the calcification of VSMCs.In SRI we also had Journal Club Meetings every week where we learned the ins and outs of scientific literature. We also had segments based on scientific Case Studies where we learned about the ethics in science.

One of the biggest events of the dance group is the Vacation Bible School (VBS) Summer Camp, where we perform different choreographies for all five days of the week. This opportunity also allows us to include little kids in the dances, mentoring/ teaching them the dances weeks prior.

I am part of my Church Youth Dance Group, where we perform at all events held by the church! It is an honor to dance and show my love and devotion to God!
