Reading and writing have been incredible aids in my life, and I want to contribute to their continued place in society. They have given me the ability to form and voice ideas, strengthen my English skills while growing up in a Spanish-speaking home, and travel beyond my home into countless lives. I'd like to help others be exposed to the wonders that books offer. I recently graduated from Mercer University where I received my B.A. in English and history. I am interested in editing for the publishing industry, particularly working with adult fiction and young adult fiction. My historical research centers on 20th-century Mexicans in the United States. I have done some freelance editing in nonfiction. The first edition of Hidden Threads: Intellect, Diversity, & Religious Freedom is available now, and a second edition is expected to publish in spring 2025. During my undergraduate years, I took part in several organizations. I served as a writing preceptor at Mercer University for two semesters. As a writing preceptor, I was paired with a first-year course to facilitate writing instruction and provide constructive feedback on student writing. After this position I was part of the inaugural cohort of Writing Fellows in Mercer's Writers' Hub—I worked one-on-one with students to help with their writing. I helped develop writing instructional material for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. I frequently worked within the publishing industry while pursuing my degree. As an editorial intern at Mercer University Press, my duties included proofreading, copyediting, and evaluating submitted manuscripts. And as the copy editor for Mercer University's student-run newspaper The Cluster, I reviewed and edited articles prior to their publication. I was also a staff member of Mercer University's literary and arts magazine The Dulcimer. I evaluated submitted literary works for publication and designed layouts as part of a team.My undergraduate and professional work has emphasized the powers of language and writing, and I aim to help others wield it well.
