Valley Hospice medical team was successfully established, the Hospice opened it’s doors and operations were put in place to sustain the clinical team. This is the second Hospice in Nova Scotia I have had the opportunity to establish as Medical Director. Collaboration, stakeholder engagement, innovation, understanding and optimism were some of the essential elements for success.

Academic Staff member with the Division of Palliative Medicine, Department of Family Medicine within the Department of Medicine at Queen's University. Academic duties including teaching and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate learners and scholarly activity.Responsible for management of patients admitted to the Palliative Care beds at St Mary's of the Lake Palliative Care Unit and primary care and consultation to patients in the community.

Chief Resident for Palliative Care. As a Family Physician, I have have been accepted to the Year of Added Competency in Palliative Care at Dalhousie University. My resident project will focus on a review of Hospice Care in Nova Scotia. This additional training will enhance my skill set in the provision of Palliative/End of Life Care and will also allow me to continue to advocate for Hospice based care in the Maritimes. Hospice is a patient centred, cost effective service which is lacking from our community based care initiatives.

Member of the Board since 2008. Board co-chair Jan 2014-July 2014. Resigned from board (continue to be a member) when relocated to Kingston Ontario and joined as board member of the Kingston Hospice in 2015. Residential Hospice is an excellent choice - economically, socially and personally - for end of life care for those who cannot be cared for at home. Attending Physician and Service Chief of a Family Medicine Unit at a Tertiary Care Centre (CDHA, Halifax) - transitioned the unit from a concept to an integrated, 36 bed family medicine teaching unit. The Community Health Unit was initially developed as a collaborative team based unit with a clinical focus on care for the frail, subacute medical patient.
