I’ve learned a lot in my twenty-odd years working in the restaurant industry. I’ve learned about people and how they react to situations and to control how I react to those same situations. I’ve learned how to teach people to be great at their jobs and in doing so, I get better at mine. I’ve learned the technical and practical aspects that make a restaurant run like a well oiled machine. My education taught me how and why people do the things they do, how to teach and how to lead a group. How to motivate and how to get results. My further education taught me about food and wine, about the simple joy that can be found in crafting a great meal. I’ve learned how food safety plays an integral role in the service industry, keeping staff and guests safe. I’ve learned that the opportunity for growth and advancement is out there and it’s up to me to grab it.
