1. Maintained the event calendar and submitted laboratory compliance documentation for IBC (Institutional Biosafety Committee), ACC (animal care committee), OSHA, and other major federal agencies.2. Managed the laboratory's $250,000+ budget by arranging graduate student travel, ordering lab supplies, lab equipment, and keeping annual expense reports.3. Researched for experimental planning, planned breeder colonies, and genotyped 13 cohorts of mice (15-20 cages each) using PCR and qPCR. 4. Analyzed experimental data in MS Excel and created the appropriate graphs, charts, and tables.5. Developed a system to organize purchasing orders, safety documents, and lab equipment warranty information for multiple years in the laboratory.6. Created weekly MS PowerPoints to present scientific literature, experimental paradigms, and scientific data through graphs and charts.7. Turned my scientific data into a compelling manuscript of how alcohol intake increases cytokine inflammation and its role in Alzheimer’s Disease pathology.

Over the summer I was an undergraduate in Dr. Pennell's Lab in the Civil Engineering department. I studied the fate and transport of per and polyfluorinated alkyl substances specifically looking at PFOA and PFOS. I learned to use the liquid chromatography- mass spectrometry technology to create standard curves for five known PFAS currently in drinking water. At the end of the summer I presented a poster. Through Dr. Pennell's lab I got to go to Washington, D.C for a Science and Policy event with the University of Kentucky Superfund Research Center.

An intern in a microbiology lab researching uncultured TM7 bacteria in oral samples. Weekly presented my findings to my PI and peers. At the end of the ten week program I was knowledgable about TM7 and the techniques regarding the research. Specifically learning confocal microscopy and FISH.
